Muslim Chaplain Ensures Students Have Ramadan Dining Options
In Chicago, Loyola University’s Muslim chaplain is working with its dining halls to implement meal accommodations for Muslim students during Ramadan starting April 2.
Many Muslim students observe daily fasting from dawn to sunset during the month and perform extended nightly prayers.
Loyola’s Muslim Chaplain Omer Mozaffar called Ramadan the annual Muslim “boot camp.”
Mozaffar worked with Aramark, Loyola’s dining hall food provider, to make meal packages available to fasting Muslim students after sunset.
It is the first time since the pandemic that Loyola classes will be in full swing during Ramadan.
The month is expected to end on May 2 with the celebration of the holiday Eid-ul-Fitr.
