Musk ‘has no actual or formal authority’’: White House
The White House has clarified in a court filing that Elon Musk serves as a senior advisor to President Donald Trump, not as an employee of the Department of Government Efficiency or DOGE.
The filing also said Musk does not hold any decision-making authority there.
Signed by Joshua Fisher, director of the White House Office of Administration, the filing said Musk has no actual or formal authority to make government decisions himself.
Fisher’s filing was submitted to District Judge Tanya Chutkan, who is considering a legal challenge by Democratic attorneys general to prevent Musk and his DOGE associates from influencing the federal government.
Trump appointed Musk, who has no experience in government service or administration, to lead the DOGE.
The task force claims it aims to streamline federal operations and reduce wasteful spending.
