Murder anniversary of 6-year-old Muslim boy marked in Plainfield, Illinois
A memorial was held in Plainfield, Illinois on Sunday for a six-year-old Palestinian-American Muslim boy stabbed to death in a hate crime.
Wadee al Fayoume was killed in the town outside of Chicago on October 14 last year.
He was stabbed 26 times.
His mother Hanan Shahin was also stabbed but survived.
They were allegedly attacked at the hands of seventy-one year old Joseph Czuba CHOO-BA, who was the landlord of the building Fayoume and his mother lived in.
Before he stabbed the mother and child, he yelled “All Muslims must die”.
Prosecutors say Czuba was upset over Hamas’ October 7th attack inside Israel, which had happened days before the stabbings.
Czuba has been charged with first-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and two counts of committing a hate crime.
He is scheduled to go on trial on February 24.
Over two weeks ago, the Senate passed the Wadee Al Fayoume Act, which recognizes his death as a hate crime due to his Palestinian Muslim identity.
