Morocco embraces AI to boost football performance ahead of 2030 World Cup
Country taps into sports tech to build smarter, stronger game on and off the field
RABAT, Morocco (MNTV) – As Morocco prepares to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, the country is turning to artificial intelligence (AI) and sports technology to elevate its football infrastructure and performance to global standards.
At the World Football Summit, Faycal Bouchafra, senior lead of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Evosport, outlined Morocco’s ambitious vision to fuse sport, tech, and entrepreneurship into a sustainable, data-driven football ecosystem.
“AI is becoming indispensable in football,” Bouchafra said in an interview with Hespress EN. “From analyzing tactical decisions to monitoring a player’s knee movement, the technology provides insights that were unimaginable just a few years ago.”
Through Evosport, Morocco is investing in football academies and laying the groundwork for an innovation hub that will incubate AI-powered sports solutions.
These technologies are being used to enhance coaching, improve player performance, prevent injuries, and refine in-game strategy.
The adoption of AI extends off the pitch as well. Clubs are leveraging data analytics to understand fan preferences, tailor digital content, and modernize marketing strategies—ushering in a new era of fan engagement and sports branding.
“This is the future of advertising and marketing in sports,” Bouchafra said.
“It’s about understanding your audience like never before.”
Globally, AI is already transforming elite football—from talent scouting and performance analytics to referee systems like VAR and goal-line technology.
Bouchafra believes Morocco is well-positioned to keep pace.
“We’re ahead of many European countries like Poland or the Czech Republic in terms of talent and potential,” he noted.
“What we need now is momentum.”
With the 2030 World Cup drawing closer, Bouchafra is calling for greater collaboration among investors, researchers, tech developers, and sports professionals.
He emphasized the need for more summits, panels, and innovation platforms to unify efforts and fast-track progress.
“We need to build everything in parallel: infrastructure, innovation, training, and support,” he said.
“The future of football lies in tech, and Morocco is ready to play.”
