MLK WAS NOT BORN MLK
That MLK was not born MLK might be news to some — as America celebrates the 36th federal holiday Martin Luther King Day today.
USA Today is reporting that in 1934, his father Michael King Sr. changed his name and his son’s name.
He would thereafter be known as the Rev. Martin Luther King Sr.
His 5-year-old son — also a Michael — would be Martin Luther King Jr.
As the country is coming together to honor the life and legacy of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. today, equal voting rights for all Americans are still in peril.
Democratic lawmakers will mark the holiday without delivering on a promise to vote on the voting rights bill.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer made the announcement on Thursday, breaking his promised deadline to vote on a rule change by the federal holiday honoring the late civil rights leader.
