Minister calls for ban on hijabs on school outings
France’s Interior Minister has urged banning Muslim women from wearing hijabs during school trips, citing the need to curb Islamist influences.
Bruno Retailleau made the call on the 10th anniversary of the Charlie Hebdo attacks.
Twelve people were killed by Al-Qaeda terrorists after the magazine published offensive cartoons about Prophet Muhammad.
Retailleau warned of rising radicalisation, blaming social media for fueling extremism.
He also accused political Islam of threatening national unity by pushing sharia law.
The minister wants France’s ban on religious head coverings in schools extended to include mothers on school trips.
He claimed the hijab is a symbol of Islamist ideology and gender subordination.
