Milwaukee Muslim Community Stays Hopeful In Search For Missing Friends In Drainage Ditch
Two days after a 10-year-old boy died after falling into a drainage ditch in Milwaukee, the search continues for the boy’s father and neighbor, who tried to save him.
Fast-moving water swept Rashidullah Abdul Hashim and Zakaria Gonumeah into one of the tunnels.
Muslim community members remain hopeful Abdul Hashim and Gonumeah will return to their families.
The community has rallied around the families of both men.
Many Muslims connected to the local mosque are doing what they can to help with the search.
Community leaders are asking volunteer searchers to be especially careful.
Milwaukee Fire Department Chief Aaron Lipski said he can’t divert resources from this search for another dive rescue.
The hot weather has complicated the search, but rain moving into the area might help, officials said.
