Man charged with shooting Jewish pedestrian in Chicago
A 22-year-old Chicago man has been charged with shooting an Orthodox Jewish pedestrian on his way to synagogue on Saturday.
Sidi Mohamed Abdallahi faces 14 felony counts, including six for attempted first-degree murder and seven for aggravated discharge of a firearm at officers and firefighters.
Authorities say that after shooting the victim multiple times, Abdallahi opened fire on responding officers.
The 39-year-old victim was treated in a hospital for a gunshot wound to the shoulder and later discharged.
Chicago Police Superintendent Larry Snelling said police did not have enough evidence to charge Abdallahi with a hate crime, but that the charge remains a possibility.
