Malaysian premier calls for ending genocide in Gaza ‘permanently’
ANKARA (AA) – Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has called for ending “effectively and permanently” Israel’s genocidal acts against the Palestinians in Gaza.
Addressing the Extraordinary Islamic Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Arab League in the Saudi capital Riyadh, Anwar said that a “crisis of humanity” has been unfolding in Gaza.
He urged the OIC member states and the international community to address the “plight and sufferings” of the Palestinians.
Israel has continued a devastating offensive on Gaza since an attack last year by Hamas, despite a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate cease-fire.
It has killed more than 43,600 people, mostly women and children, and injured over 102,900 others, according to local health authorities.
According to several analysts, the actual death toll including those gone missing and unaccounted for, those dying of malnutrition or infectious disease make up over 3-4 times the official toll, which is 10 percent of the total population of the region.
