Malaysia turns to AI to curb student dropouts
Upgraded tracking system to identify at-risk students earlier, says deputy minister
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (MNTV) — Malaysia is enhancing its Student Tracking System with artificial intelligence (AI) to better detect and support students at risk of dropping out, Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh announced.
The AI-powered upgrade will allow schools to identify students facing attendance issues, those who have already dropped out, and children encountering barriers to education at an earlier stage, he said in Malaysia’s lower house of parliament, the Dewan Rakyat.
“With early detection, the ministry can implement targeted interventions and take action much earlier. We will not compromise on attendance, dropouts, or access to quality education—this remains a top priority,” Wong emphasized.
He was responding to a query on measures to ensure every Malaysian child, regardless of background, has access to education.
