Lord Nazir Jailed For Attempted Rape, Sexual Assault
A former Labor councilor has been sentenced to five years and six months in prison for the attempted rape of a young girl and sexually assaulting a boy under 11 in the 1970s.
Sixty-four-year-old Lord Nazir Ahmed was found guilty at Sheffield Crown Court last month of two counts of attempted rape and one of buggery while he was a teenager in Rotherham.
Ahmed, who was made a peer in 1998 on former Prime Minister Tony Blair’s recommendation, quit the House of Lords in 2020.
He resigned after allegations by a different woman who claimed Ahmed had sexually exploited her in 2017.
As a life peer, Ahmed retains the title Lord Ahmed of Rotherham.
