Libya deports 400 migrants to Niger
Libyan authorities have deported 400 irregular migrants to Niger by land, marking the first such operation in 12 years.
The deportation, conducted Wednesday, is part of intensified efforts to curb illegal migration.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohamed Buredia, deputy head of security at the Anti-Illegal Migration Unit, said the agency has ramped up operations targeting those without valid residence permits.
Libyan officials have said irregular migration poses a national security problem.
Libya remains a critical transit hub for migrants aiming to cross the Mediterranean into Europe, often risking their lives in perilous journeys.
