Lebanon files complaint against Israel at UN for ground incursion
Lebanon has submitted a formal complaint to the United Nations Security Council.
A statement by Lebanon’s permanent mission to the UN says Lebanon condemns Israel’s aggression against its sovereignty and the incursion of its forces within Lebanese borders.
On October 1, Israel launched a ground operation in southern Lebanon.
Israeli military officials say the incursion is meant to establish a security buffer zone that would last several weeks.
Lebanon’s mission says by crossing the Blue Line, Israel has breached the Security Council Resolution 1701 adopted in August 2006.
The purpose of resolution 1701 is to end hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel, with the council calling for a permanent cease-fire to be based on the creation of a buffer zone.
The complaint notes that Israel has amassed military forces, tanks and armored vehicles along Lebanon’s southern border.
The military is targeting civilians, aid workers and journalists.
It is indiscriminately shelling towns and villages with more than 8,570 strikes.
Hezbollah says it repelled six Israeli infiltration attempts yesterday in southern Lebanon.
