Leader of ‘Proud Boys’ predicts Trump’s conviction for election overturn efforts
In an interview Tarrio says there are 100% chances of conviction of Trump for his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election results
WASHINGTON – Henry “Enrique” Tarrio, the former national chairman of the far-right group Proud Boys, predicts that former President Donald Trump will be convicted of federal election offenses.
In an interview he said he believes there are “100%” chances of conviction of Trump for his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.
Tarrio was sentenced to 22 years in prison for his involvement in the Jan. 6, 2021, riots at the U.S. Capitol.
This is the longest sentence given to a defendant in the case.
Tarrio said that during his trial he was questioned by federal investigators about communications linking Trump to the Jan. 6 events.
He recounted being questioned about a November 2020 message that pointed to his contact with Trump’s campaign before the riots.
Prosecutors believed he communicated with Trump through intermediaries and offered him a reduced sentence in exchange for information leading to Trump’s conviction.
Tarrio, however, insisted he could not provide such information.
Tarrio also clarified that he does not hold Trump responsible for his conviction.
The former president faces trial next March 4 on various charges to which he has pleaded not guilty.
Tarrio said he was not directly responsible for the attack on the Capitol.
He was not physically present on Jan. 6 because of an earlier arrest, but was convicted of remotely organizing the attack.
Tarrio said he has no regrets about his involvement with the Proud Boys.
The judge overseeing Tarrio’s sentencing ruled that his actions were serious enough to warrant a terrorism enhancement that significantly increased his prison time.
Trump is now slated to head to trial on March 4 next year to face charges of conspiracy to to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights. He has pleaded not guilty.
