Laws enacted to crack down on peaceful protestors across US
Forty-one anti-protest bills have been introduced in 22 states across the U.S. since the start of 2025.
Experts say the bills target peaceful protesters speaking out against Israel’s U.S.-backed genocide in Gaza and the climate crisis.
The International Center for Not-for-Profit Law says this year’s numbers in three months already are close to last year’s total.
Thirty-two bills were introduced after Trump returned to the White House in 16 states.
Five federal bills also target college students, anti-war protesters, and climate activists.
Experts warn the moves threaten First Amendment rights, putting free speech, assembly, and petition at serious risk.
