Landmine explosion kills 2 children in central Yemen
SANAA, Yemen (AA) – Two children were killed and a third injured in a landmine explosion in Yemen’s central Marib province, according to a local observatory on Thursday.
“Two children, Saqr Mohammed Sinan, 8, and Ka’ed Abdullah Khaymah, 12, were killed by a mine explosion in the Muhazar district in Marib,” the Yemeni Mine Observatory said in a statement.
It added that a third child was injured in the blast.
The observatory did not accuse any party of being behind the explosion.
There was no comment from either Yemeni authorities or Houthi rebels on the report.
The Yemeni Mine Observatory is a non-governmental organization concerned with documenting victims of mines, unexploded ordnance, and remnants of war in the country.
According to previous statements by Yemeni officials, there are more than 2 million landmines in the war-torn country.
Yemen has been engulfed by violence since 2014, when Iranian-aligned Houthi rebels captured much of the country, including the capital Sanaa.
