Kazakhstan hosts Central Asia’s largest robotics championship
Over 3,000 young engineers from 6 countries competed, with winners advancing to global championship in the US
ASTANA, Kazakhstan (MNTV) — More than 3,000 young engineers from six countries gathered for Almaty Tech Cup 2025, the biggest robotics competition in Central Asia.
The annual event, held since 2014, featured teams from Kazakhstan, India, Türkiye, Turkmenistan, the Kyrgyz Republic, and Uzbekistan.
This year’s competition focused on water resource management and marine ecosystem restoration, with participants developing robots for environmental monitoring and marine biodiversity conservation.
Competitors were divided into four age categories, showcasing a range of innovative solutions.
Top-performing teams received the prestigious Mayor’s Cup and scholarships for higher education in Kazakhstan.
The best teams will now advance to the world’s largest robotics championship in the U.S., where they will represent Kazakhstan on the global stage.
“We put a lot of effort into preparing for this competition, as we regularly take part in similar events. Our goal is to win and secure a spot in Houston. We strive to showcase our knowledge and continue developing our engineering skills,” said participant Aikhanym Shamshadin.
Kazakhstan has consistently excelled in international robotics competitions.
According to USTEM Foundation project manager Nurlybek Nurzhanov, Kazakh teams have secured first place three years in a row in competitions held in Switzerland, Singapore and Greece.
The Almaty Tech Cup continues to be a crucial platform for young engineers, fostering innovation and positioning Kazakhstan as a leader in robotics on the global stage.
