Kamala Harris, Tim Walz hold their 1st rally as running mates
WASHINGTON (AA) – US Vice President Kamala Harris and her newly elected running mate Minnesota Governor Tim Walz held their first rally in the battleground state of Philadelphia on Tuesday evening.
The event, which marked Harris’s first public appearance since the Democratic Party confirmed her as its official presidential candidate through a virtual roll call, came hours after she announced Walz as her choice for vice president.
“Today, I am proud to declare that I am officially the Democratic candidate for president of the United States,” she said while standing next to Walz. “So now we have some work to do. We have to move to the general election and win that.”
While introducing Walz, Harris said he is “the kind of person who makes people feel like they belong and then inspires them to dream big.”
“That’s the kind of vice president he will be. And that’s the kind of vice president America deserves,” she added.
“Thank you for bringing back the joy,” Walz said to Harris after she introduced the 60-year-old to the crowd.
“We’ve got 91 days,” he said. “My God, that’s easy. We’ll sleep when we’re dead.”
