Jordan prepares to welcome visitors during Eid Al-Fitr
PETRA, Jordan (MNTV) – Jordan’s tourism authority, Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA), has finalized preparations to welcome visitors to the iconic Rose City during Eid Al-Fitr, ensuring all tourist and archaeological sites are fully operational.
The preparation will include maintenance of services at the visitor center, Petra Museum, cultural village, and other key facilities to guarantee a seamless experience for guests.
However, this year’s Eid celebrations come as Petra’s hotels and tourism facilities report lower-than-average occupancy rates.
Industry leaders attribute the decline to ongoing regional instability, particularly the Israeli war on Gaza, which has significantly impacted foreign and Arab tourism.
Abdullah Al-Hasanat, head of the Petra Hotels Association, noted that occupancy levels remain “very modest,” with Petra not being a top choice for Jordanian and Arab tourists during the holiday.
He cited a lack of promotional efforts for domestic and regional tourism, compounded by the broader geopolitical situation.
Despite the challenges, Alaa Al-Masada, a member of the Petra Horse Association, urged travelers to visit the ancient city, highlighting its unique attractions, comprehensive services, and more affordable prices compared to other tourist destinations in Jordan.
The PDTRA’s efforts aim to revive tourism in Petra, a cornerstone of Jordan’s heritage and economy, while navigating the current downturn in visitor numbers.
Authorities remain hopeful that enhanced services and competitive pricing will help attract more guests in the coming months.
