Jordan calls for ‘immediate international action’ to stop Israel’s war on Gaza
AMMAN, Jordan (AA) – Jordan’s King Abdullah II has called for “immediate international action” to halt the ongoing genocidal war on Gaza, which Israel has been waging for the past 16 months.
During a phone call with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, King Abdullah stressed the “urgent need for the international community to take immediate action to halt Israel’s attacks on Gaza, and to commit to reinstating the cease-fire,” according to the Jordanian Royal Court.
King Abdullah also highlighted the importance of resuming aid to Gaza to alleviate the worsening humanitarian crisis.
He reaffirmed Jordan’s stance against the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza and the West Bank.
More than 700 Palestinians have been killed and over 1,000 others injured in a devastating aerial campaign by Israel on Gaza since Tuesday, shattering a cease-fire and prisoner exchange agreement that had taken hold in January.
This escalation represents the largest breach of the cease-fire agreement, which Israel previously too regularly violated.
The Jordanian monarch also expressed concern about the continued attacks on Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and violations of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, including the sacred Al Aqsa mosque, one of Islam’s holiest sites.
