Jordan warns citizens against traveling to Lebanon due to ‘exceptional circumstances’
AMMAN (AA) – Jordan has advised its citizens to refrain from traveling to Lebanon except for “extreme necessity” due to the “exceptional circumstances prevailing in the region.”
In a statement, the Jordanian Foreign Ministry stated the advisory is based on emergency plans announced by Lebanese authorities.
Since the war on Gaza broke out on October 7, intermittent exchanges of gunfire have been occurring at the Lebanese border between the Israeli army on one side and Hezbollah and Palestinian factions on the other, resulting in casualties on both sides.
This week the Israeli army expanded its air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip, which has been under relentless airstrikes since the Palestinian group Hamas launched a surprise offensive against Israel on October 7.
Israeli airstrikes on Gaza have repeatedly targeted hospitals, residential buildings, mosques and churches. Under the Geneva Convention, attacks on hospitals are strictly prohibited.
More than 8,525 Palestinians, including 3,542 children have been killed.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has brazenly rejected all international calls for a cease-fire.
