‘Jews unwilling to live with Arab population in Israel’
TEL AVIV, Israel – Israeli justice minister Yariv Levin said Sunday Jews are not ready to live with Arabs in Israel.
According to the Middle East Eye news website, the Israeli minister said that the purchase of homes by Arabs was causing Jews to leave the areas.
He told Israel’s public broadcaster Kan that the Supreme Court needs judges who understand why Jewish Israelis do not want to live with Arabs.
“Arabs buy apartments in Jewish communities in the Galilee and this causes Jews to leave these cities, because they are not ready to live with Arabs. We need to ensure that the Supreme Court has justices who understand this,” said Levin, according to broadcaster.
Levin is one of the main architects of plans to overhaul the judiciary.
The plans call for greater political control over the judiciary.
His remarks were in favor of moving forward with the controversial reforms.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was forced to halt his plans after mass protests and an international outcry.
