Israeli strikes kill 26 more Palestinians in Gaza amid truce talks
UN slams Israel as Gaza turns into a ‘killing field’; fresh ceasefire proposal surfaces while health crisis deepens with over 10,000 awaiting urgent evacuation
GAZA, Palestine (MNTV) – At least 26 more Palestinians have been killed in the latest Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip, even as negotiations for a truce reportedly gather momentum.
The Palestinian Health Ministry said another 106 people were injured in the past 24 hours, while medical sources told Al Jazeera TV that at least 13 Palestinians were killed since dawn on Friday alone.
One of the deadliest incidents was reported in Khan Younis, where 10 members of the same family were killed when Israeli forces shelled their home, according to Palestinian news agency WAFA.
Five others were wounded in the same attack.
In northern Gaza’s Beit Lahia, two civilians were killed and several wounded in a drone strike, WAFA reported.
Residents described “nonstop explosions” as Israeli forces continued demolishing buildings to expand their so-called “buffer zone.”
The Israeli army on Friday reissued urgent evacuation warnings to residents of seven neighborhoods in eastern Gaza City — including Shujaiya, Al-Jadeedah, and Zeitoun — threatening further military strikes.
The United Nations condemned the mounting civilian toll, revealing that between March 18 and April 9, Israel conducted 224 strikes on homes and displacement camps, resulting in a “large percentage” of women and child fatalities.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly discussed a draft truce proposal with Egyptian officials.
According to Israeli media, the proposal envisions the release of eight live and eight dead Israeli prisoners in exchange for a 40-to-70-day ceasefire and the release of Palestinian prisoners.
The draft could also open the door to discussions on a second phase of ceasefire talks.
However, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to worsen.
WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned that more deaths are likely as Israel maintains its blockade on aid. Over 10,000 people in Gaza require urgent medical evacuation, but access remains blocked.
Palestinian Health Ministry reports that at least 50,912 Palestinians have been killed and more than 115,981 wounded since Israel’s assault began in October 2023.
The Government Media Office estimates the true death toll exceeds 61,700, factoring in thousands still trapped under rubble.
The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Prime Minister Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant over alleged war crimes.
Additionally, Israel faces genocide charges at the International Court of Justice.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres earlier this week described Gaza as a “killing field.”
On Friday, the UN human rights office warned that Israel’s actions are creating conditions “incompatible with the continued existence” of Palestinians as a group.
As the world watches, Gaza’s nightmare deepens — and a desperately needed truce remains uncertain.
