Israeli offensive on Rafah would be ‘unbearable escalation’: UN chief

UN chief Antonio Guterres has urged Israel against invading southern Gaza’s Rafah, after the Israeli prime minister said an offensive would go forward regardless of a pending deal with Hamas.
A military assault on Rafah would “be an unbearable escalation, killing thousands more civilians and forcing hundreds of thousands to flee,” the secretary-general told reporters.
However, Israel — which stands accused of genocide by the ICJ — continues to escalate towards an imminent attack on Rafah where hundreds of thousands are presently seeking shelter after having been displaced by Israel’s brutal and indiscriminate assault on the besieged territory.
