Israeli media say projectile intercepted over Red Sea
JERUSALEM (AA) – Israeli media said Tuesday that a projectile had been intercepted over the Red Sea before infiltrating Israeli territory.
The projectile was possibly launched from Yemen, triggering air-raid sirens to sound in the coastal city of Eilat, public broadcaster KAN said.
The Israeli army confirmed that it had identified an “aerial target” approaching the country’s territory, but without confirming reports that the target was intercepted over the Red Sea.
“There was no threat or risk to civilians,” the army said in a statement.
Tension has been rising across the region as the Israeli army continues its air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip.
More than 8,306 Palestinians have been killed so far in the attacks. The Hamas attack on Oct. 7 has so far resulted in deaths of 1,538 Israelis.
