Israeli killed in rocket attack from Lebanon
JERUSALEM (AA) – An Israeli has been killed in a rocket attack from Lebanon following an escalation of cross-border fire from Israel into Lebanon.
Israel’s ambulance service Magen David Adom said an Israeli man died from rocket fire in Ma’alot Tarshiha Jewish settlement in the Galilee region in northern Israel.
Israeli public broadcaster KAN said a rocket directly hit a house in Ma’alot Tarshiha, seriously injuring one person, who was later pronounced dead.
A military statement said some 50 rockets were fired from Lebanon towards Upper and Western Galilee regions since morning, causing sirens to sound there.
The army said some of the projectiles were intercepted, while others fell in open areas.
Israel has mounted a massive air campaign in Lebanon since last month against what it alleges are ‘Hezbollah targets.’
Over 2,700 people have been killed and nearly 12,500 injured in Israeli attacks on Lebanon since October last year, according to Lebanese health authorities.
In the face of global censure, Israel expanded the war on Gaza on October 1 this year by launching a ground assault into southern Lebanon.
