Israeli forces kill Palestinian in West Bank
JERUSALEM, Palestine – Israeli forces Thursday killed a Palestinian near a shrine in the occupied West Bank city of Nablus.
The Palestinian Ministry confirmed the death of one person, without providing further details about the individual.
Three others were wounded in the incident and taken to the hospital.
The Israeli army claimed that their operation was intended to secure the entrance of Israeli civilians to Prophet Yosef or Joseph’s Tomb in Nablus.
The army frequently escorts Jewish pilgrims to the holy site, while Palestinians see these visits as provocative.
According to the Israeli statement, armed Palestinians were involved in the incident and engaged in violent activities.
The Israeli forces responded with live fire and riot dispersal measures.
This incident occurred amid rising tensions in the West Bank, which has been under Israeli occupation since the 1967 Six-Day War.
Throughout the year, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has resulted in the deaths of at least 196 Palestinians and 27 Israelis.
The West Bank is home to almost three million Palestinians and around 490,000 Israelis residing in settlements considered illegal under international law.
