Israeli army attacks Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon
JERUSALEM (AA) – The Israeli army carried out airstrikes against Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon.
A military statement said fighter jets struck Hezbollah infrastructure in the border towns of Kafr Kila and Khaim and a military building in Maroun al-Ras. Artillery shelling was also reported near Jebbayn town.
The army said it responded to the source of fire from southern Lebanon after projectiles were launched into northern Israel.
There were no reports yet of casualties.
Hezbollah said its fighters attacked several Israeli positions near the border with southern Lebanon.
Tension has flared along the border between Lebanon and Israel amid intermittent exchanges of fire between Israeli forces and Hezbollah, in the deadliest clashes since the two sides fought a full-scale war in 2006.
The border tension comes amid an Israeli military offensive in the Gaza Strip that has killed at least 29,410 people.
