Israel Uses Covid-19 Measurers To Traumatize Palestinian Prisoners
Israeli prison services used COVID-19 restrictions as a tool against Palestinian inmates, according to a report from the Palestinians Prisoners’ Society.
By November 2020, more than 100 COVID-19 cases were reported among prisoners.
Amani Sarahneh, spokeswoman for the Palestinian society, said each jail cell held more than six prisoners leading to more risk of spreading the virus.
Sarahneh said prison officials also publicly refused to administer the vaccine to prisoners.
The report noted that dozens of Palestinians have been detained in centers where the conditions were deplorable, creating a fertile ground for the spread of diseases.
It also quoted ex-prisoners who claimed Israeli prison guards were spitting on roofs and public places.Israel holds some 4650 Palestinians, including 200 children in its jails.
