Israel ‘plans’ to divide Gaza into emirates ruled by tribes, rather than political entity
JERUSALEM (AA) – A post-war scenario contrived by Israel in Gaza has come to light, according to which the territory would be ruled by tribes or clans rather than a single political entity.
According to public broadcaster KAN, the plan has been devised by the Israeli army. It stipulates that the Gaza Strip be divided into regions and subregions under Israeli control.
The proposed scheme may also extend to the West Bank and recommends dividing the territories into emirates under strict Israeli security control.
Tel Aviv is yet to comment on the report, but Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said on several occasions that he will not allow the Palestinian Authority, which controls the occupied West Bank, to have any role in ruling Gaza after the ongoing military assault is over.
The stance contradicts the US position, which has suggested that the Palestinian Authority should rule Gaza after the end of the ongoing war on the besieged and crippled territory.
Israel’s onslaught has killed over 22,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and left the besieged territory into ruins as most of its infrastructure has been destroyed or damaged.
Up to 1.9 million people, or over 85% of the population, have been displaced across the Gaza Strip, according to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees.
