Israel given body of man killed in accident in West Bank
JENIN, Palestine (AA) – The Israeli army has announced that it has received from Palestinian authorities the body of an Israeli who died in a hospital in Jenin in a road accident.
Palestinians had held on to the deceased’s body, demanding that Israel release the bodies of Palestinians held by it.
“After efforts by security forces, and in coordination with the Palestinian security services and the Palestinian Authority, the body of the Israeli Tiran Biro, who was killed in a traffic accident in Jenin, was handed over to his family,” the Israeli army said in a statement.
“We did not offer anything to the Palestinians in exchange for the dead body,” Israeli media cited a senior security official as saying.
A Palestinian source in the Jenin refugee camp confirmed that the body had been returned unharmed.
Bodies of several Palestinians killed by Israeli security forces have never been returned to their families.
