Israel Forces Palestinian Families To Self-Demolish Own Homes In Jerusalem
Israel forced two Palestinian families in occupied East Jerusalem to demolish their own homes on Monday.
The Sukeyrat family said an Israeli court issued a final decision Sunday ordering their homes be razed.
To avoid the cost of the demolition, homeowners and brothers Mahmud and Davud Sukeyrat and their families began clearing out their homes in Jabal al-Mukabber.
Israel often uses the lack of construction permits as a pretext to demolish Palestinian homes, especially in Area C of the occupied West Bank.
The 1995 Oslo Accords divided the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, into three portions – Areas A, B, and C.
Area C is under Israel’s administrative and security control until a final status agreement is reached with the Palestinians.
