Israel confirms release of seven captives from Gaza in latest exchange
In a significant development, Israel’s military has confirmed that a group of newly released captives has safely crossed into Israeli territory.
Among them are Israeli nationals Arbel Yehud, 29, and Gadi Moshe Mozes, 80.
Additionally, five Thai nationals—Thaenna Pongsak, Sathian Suwannakhan, Sriaoun Watchara, Saethao Bannawat, and Rumnao Surasak—were also freed.
The Red Cross, which facilitated the transfer, stated that it had custody of seven individuals following a tense and chaotic handover in Khan Younis.
Earlier in the day, another Israeli captive, a female soldier, was released from Jabalia, bringing the total number of captives freed on this occasion to eight.
As part of the negotiated exchange, Israel is set to release 110 Palestinian prisoners later today, including 30 minors.
Among those expected to be freed is Mohammed Falna, the longest-serving prisoner from the Ramallah Governorate, who has been incarcerated for 33 years, according to the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society.
However, Israel’s government has ordered prison authorities to suspend the planned release of Palestinian prisoners “until further notice,” according to a report from Israel’s Kann broadcaster.
Israel’s Army Radio also confirmed the delay, stating that buses transporting detainees were en route back to Ofer Prison.
The sudden decision raises questions about the status of the ongoing prisoner exchange process and could impact further negotiations.
No official reason has been given for the delay, but the situation remains fluid as developments unfold.
