Islamic Jihad says it will not stand ‘hand-tied’ to Israeli violations
GAZA CITY, Palestine (AA) – Palestinian group Islamic Jihad said Sunday it will not stand “hand-tied” to Israeli violations in the occupied West Bank and against Palestinian detainees.
“We will not accept this continuing humiliation,” group leader Ziad al-Nakhalah said in a statement.
He said Israeli violations in the occupied East Jerusalem, “the daily killing of Palestinians, home demolitions and assaults on prisoners require a serious stand from all nationalist and Islamic groups.”
At least 65 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli in raids in the occupied West Bank since the beginning of this year, according to Palestinian estimates.
There are around 4,700 Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails, including around 640 held without charge or trial under Israel’s administrative detention policy.
On Saturday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said during a meeting with an official US delegation that the Palestinian Authority was preparing to take steps to “confront” Israeli escalation in the West Bank.
