New Museum Of Islamic Civilizations Set To Open In Turkey
The new Museum of Islamic Civilizations will open Friday in Turkey’s largest mosque.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will inaugurate the museum, located in Istanbul’s Grand Camlica Mosque Complex.
Built in a closed area of more than 100,000-square-feet, the museum includes works from the collections of the Topkapi Palace and Palace Collections Museum.
The museum features artifacts tracing 1,200 years of Islamic history, many of which have never been displayed before.
Nearly 800 pieces reflect the development of Islamic art from the 7th to 19th centuries.
Visitors can see representative footprints of the Prophet Muhammad, the curtain of Mecca’s holy Kaaba, and the childhood notebook of Sultan Mehmet.
