Islamic Center Of Detroit Proposes Renaming Local Park To Honor Muhammad Ali
The Islamic Center of Detroit or ICD is proposing renaming a local park to honor legendary boxer Muhammad Ali.
Currently named the Belton-Mark Twain Park, ICD has plans to remodel and rename it “Muhammad Ali Park.”
The city-owned green space is located at the intersection of Belton and Mark Twain streets, hence the name.
It is also a block away from ICD.
The Islamic Center’s remodeling plans include adding a running/walking track, an updated playground, a basketball court, and a picnic area.
The center is collecting digital signatures for its petition to rename the park.
