Iraq launches Ramadan cultural festivities
BAGHDAD, Iraq (MNTV) – Iraq has launched a series of cultural and heritage events to celebrate Ramadan, aligning with Baghdad’s status as the Capital of Arab Tourism.
According to a report by Al-Sabah, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities has organized special Ramadan-themed activities at iconic sites, including Tigris Village and Baghdad Tourist Island, alongside cultural evenings at the historic Abbasid Palace and Mustansiriya School.
These events feature debates, religious chants, and Islamic fashion showcases.
Dr. Fadhel Mohammed Hussein Al-Badrani, Undersecretary for Cultural Affairs, highlighted the significance of these initiatives, adding that the National Museum will remain open throughout Ramadan.
Visitors can also enjoy mobile theater performances based on One Thousand and One Nights at shopping malls and luxury hotels.
Iraq’s tourism sector is witnessing remarkable growth, with over one million tourists visiting last year and 10 million arriving for religious pilgrimages—figures that far surpass the 150,000 annual visitors recorded in previous years.
As Baghdad prepares to host the Arab Summit in May, a meeting of Arab tourism ministers will take place, featuring guided tours, cultural events, and museum visits for attending delegations.
To enhance the city’s appeal, extensive beautification efforts are underway, including flower plantations, street cleaning, and new infrastructure projects.
Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani has also prioritized restoring Baghdad’s historic sites, with ongoing rehabilitation efforts along Rashid Street, Al-Mutanabbi Street, and Al-Rusafi statue square.
The Minister of Culture is personally overseeing the renovation of landmarks such as the Qishla and the Saray, further reinforcing Iraq’s commitment to preserving its rich heritage and boosting tourism.
In preparation for the upcoming Arab Summit in Baghdad this May, a meeting of Arab tourism ministers will be convened.
The summit is expected to include organized tourist tours, cultural evenings, and visits to the National Museum for participating delegations.
