Iranian universities shine in QS rankings by subject 2025
TEHRAN, Iran (MNTV) — Iranian universities have achieved notable success in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025, with several institutions ranking among the top globally in key academic fields.
The rankings, which evaluate universities across 55 subjects, highlight Iran’s growing presence in higher education and research.
A total of 1,758 institutions worldwide were ranked this year, marking a seven percent increase from 2024, according to Tehran Times.
Iranian universities excelled in three broad subject areas: Engineering and Technology, Life Sciences and Medicine, and Natural Sciences.
The University of Tehran led the nation with a global ranking of 280, up from 346 in 2024, while Sharif University of Technology rose to 292 from the 410-450 range last year.
In specific disciplines, Iranian institutions demonstrated remarkable progress.
The University of Tehran and Sharif University of Technology ranked 22nd and 20th globally in Petroleum Engineering, respectively, while Amirkabir University of Technology and others secured positions in the top 150.
In Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Sharif University and the University of Tehran ranked 151-200 and 201-250, respectively.
In Life Sciences and Medicine, Tehran University of Medical Sciences climbed to 309th globally, with Mashhad University of Medical Sciences and the University of Tehran also making significant gains.
Iranian universities also performed well in Agricultural and Forestry, Anatomy and Physiology, and Pharmacy and Pharmacology.
The Natural Sciences category saw the University of Tehran and Sharif University of Technology improve their rankings to 344th and 390th, respectively.
Iranian institutions also made strides in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and Material Sciences.
“These rankings reflect the dedication of Iranian universities to academic excellence and research innovation,” said a spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology.
The achievements come alongside recent rankings by Times Higher Education (THE), which placed 85 Iranian universities among the world’s top institutions.
Sharif University of Technology led nationally, with strong showings in Computer Science, Engineering, and Business and Economics.
Iran’s rising prominence in global university rankings highlights its potential to further strengthen its academic and research contributions on the international stage.
