Iran unveils advanced micro drones, expanding military capabilities
These lightweight, compact drones are designed for specialized operations in confined spaces where larger UAVs are less effective
TEHRAN, Iran (MNTV) – Iran claims to have unveiled a new generation of Micro Aerial Vehicles (MAVs), asserting that the latest models enhance its military drone capabilities and adapt to evolving warfare tactics.
These lightweight, compact drones are designed for specialized operations in confined spaces where larger UAVs are less effective.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) showcased the latest models, emphasizing their transition from reconnaissance tools to direct combat assets.
Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour, Commander of the IRGC Ground Force, highlighted the tactical advantages of micro drones in modern conflicts.
“Over the past two to three years, global developments have demonstrated that MAVs are not limited to surveillance. They are now being deployed for direct attacks, even against armored vehicles,” he said in an interview with the Tehran Times.
Pakpour noted that these drones present a significant challenge for traditional defense systems. “Due to their small size and agility, targeting them is extremely difficult, and they cost a fraction of the price of a tank,” he added.
Iran’s latest MAVs have already been integrated into military exercises, proving their efficiency in simulated combat scenarios.
Among the new models is the “Saber,” a drone capable of carrying anti-tank and anti-personnel munitions with a range of five kilometers.
The growing prominence of micro drones in conflicts such as the war in Ukraine and the clashes between Armenia and Azerbaijan has reinforced their strategic importance.
According to Pakpour, Iran has taken note of these battlefield trends, leading to the rapid development of a more advanced MAV fleet.
The unveiling of these drones is likely to raise concerns among Iran’s adversaries, particularly as Tehran’s drone technology gains attention on the global stage.
As Iran continues to refine its unmanned aerial capabilities, these micro drones are expected to play an increasing role in both its military strategy and potential defense exports.
