Khamenei leads funeral of Haniyeh
In Tehran, a grand funeral was held for Ismail Haniyeh, the assassinated leader of the Palestinian resistance.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei led the ceremonies.
The funeral attracted large crowds carrying Palestinian flags and portraits of Haniyeh.
Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Palestinian official Khalil Al-Hayya also spoke at the event.
Haniyeh’s body is scheduled to be transferred to Qatar for burial, with Iran observing three days of mourning.
The UN Security Council convened an emergency session amid rising regional tensions following Haniyeh’s death and the assassination of Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr.
Feda Abdelhady Nasser, Palestine’s deputy UN representative, urged the international community to choose peace and resist further escalation.
