Iran indicts 73 US officers over Soleimani drone strike
Iran is formally indicting the US government and 73 American military officials for the 2020 drone strike that killed General Qassem Soleimani.
According to Iranian state media, Tehran’s judiciary chief announced the 164-page indictment and urged the accused to appoint legal representatives for a public trial at the Tehran Criminal Court.
The 2020 strike on Soleimani was ordered by ex-President Donald Trump.
It prompted Iran to exit the 2015 nuclear deal and designate the U.S. military and Pentagon as terrorist entities.
Observers say the indictment marks a significant escalation in Iran-US relations, setting the stage for a potentially contentious legal battle.
