Iran continues to crack down on violations of hijab law
TEHRAN, Iran – Iranian authorities are continuing rack down on companies and individuals that violate hijab law.
According to reports, the administrative offices of Digikala, a well-known Iranian online retailer, were recently closed. Its female employees were seen in a post circulated on social media without their mandatory hijab.
In another case, the well-known Tehran Cafe France Pastry was also closed for violating the hijab requirement.
Anger over the suppression of human rights, particularly women’s rights, has been boiling since last September, when 22-year-old Mahsa Amini died in police custody.
She had been detained for an alleged violation of the hijab law.
Abdolhossein Khosropanah, secretary of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution, had said in June that the detention of large numbers of women was not a response to the enforcement of the hijab law.
Authorities have closed stores, restaurants, cafes, and in some cases pharmacies because the owners or managers have not enforced hijab regulations.
