International film festival in Iran hosts ‘Women and Resistance’ workshop
Workshop highlights the role of women in global resistance movements through the lens of documentary filmmaking
TEHRAN, Iran (MNTV) – The 18th International Resistance Film Festival in Tehran hosted a specialized workshop titled Women and Resistance, bringing together filmmakers from around the world to explore the role of women in resistance movements through the power of cinema.
Organized in collaboration with the Shahid Avini School of Art and Media, the workshop aims to equip filmmakers with the tools to craft compelling narratives that highlight themes of resistance, particularly focusing on women’s contributions.
The initiative is designed to foster creativity, amplify underrepresented voices, and encourage the production of impactful documentary films, Iranian news agency IRNA reported.
Esrafil Kaliji, head of the festival’s international committee, emphasized the importance of the workshop in developing new talent and elevating global resistance storytelling.
“Our primary goal is to train documentary filmmakers on an international level and support the creation of meaningful works that highlight resistance, particularly the contributions of women,” Kaliji stated.
He added that the festival is committed to discovering emerging talent and shedding light on how women have played crucial roles in resistance movements.
Marzieh Minayipour, head of the festival’s women’s group, noted that the workshop has attracted a diverse range of participants from countries including Russia, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Venezuela, Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq.
Upon completing the workshop, participants will receive certification from the Shahid Avini School of Art.
They will also have the opportunity to present their film projects at the festival.
These projects, which address local resistance issues in their respective regions, will contribute to a broader conversation on global struggles and the role of women in shaping them.
The Women and Resistance workshop reinforces the festival’s commitment to ensure that the voices of women in resistance movements continue to resonate worldwide.
