Indonesia arrests woman for TikTok video with pork and Islamic prayer
Sentence stems from TikTok video in which she recited an Islamic prayer before sampling pork, which is forbidden in Islam
JAKARTA, Indonesia – A Muslim woman, Lina Lutfiawati, was sentenced to two years in prison and a $16,245 fine under Indonesia’s blasphemy law.
The sentence stems from a TikTok video in which she recited an Islamic prayer before sampling pork, which is forbidden in Islam, during her visit to Bali.
Known for her lifestyle and food videos, she is seen sitting at a dining table and reciting the Islamic phrase “Bismillah” (In the name of Allah) before eating pork skin.
The court found her guilty of spreading information that incites hatred against religious people and certain groups.
Indonesia, the world’s largest Muslim nation, has seen an increase in the use of blasphemy laws against religious minorities and individuals who have offended Islam.
Lutfiawati, who is known on social media as Lina Mukherjee, has more than 2 million followers.
She expressed shock at the verdict and is considering appealing.
She admitted to doing something wrong but said she did not expect this punishment.
