Indians Set Trains On Fire To Protest Army Recruitment
In India this week, thousands of youth carrying stick and petrol bombs escalated protests against the central government’s short-term military recruitment policy.
Violent protests against the new rule are raging across several Indian states.
Protesters burnt trains, ransacked railway stations, government and ruling party offices, and blocked tracks and roads.
They attacked public and police vehicles and threw stones at armed security personnel.
Indian Railways canceled around two dozen trains and shortened routes for others due to the protests.
Demonstrators are largely job seekers who want the government to withdraw the scheme and revert to the old recruitment process.
Under the new plan, 75% of new recruits will lose their jobs after four years.
