Indian Media Appeals To India’s Constitutional Institutions
Indian media professionals have appealed to institutions to uphold their constitutional mandate amid open calls for attacks on religious minorities, especially Muslims.
In an open letter, they wrote “The concerted amplification of hatred has been growing over the past years and months.”
Some groups have advocated violence during elections, political gatherings, and even controversy over clothing or the screening of a movie.
These widely reported calls for violence have been met with silence from the nation’s top leaders, they wrote.
As well, they said systematic hate was also propagated against Muslims under the pretext of COVID-19, including calls by legislators for their socio-economic boycott.
