India accuses US of orchestrating attacks against Modi, faces rebuke
India has accused the United States of undermining its political stability by orchestrating attacks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The claim by India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) pointed to the Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), reportedly funded by USAID and figures such as George Soros.
The controversy stems from a French investigative report that connected OCCRP with U.S. funding.
The BJP claimed the OCCRP’s reports were used by Congress opposition leader Rahul Gandhi to target Modi.
In response, the U.S. embassy has issued a stern rebuke, describing the accusations as “disappointing.”
It also emphasized that while it supports independent media, America’s involvement strictly pertains to enhancing journalistic capabilities and does not extend to influencing editorial policies.
