In The U.S., Ramadan Starts At Sundown On Friday, April 1
Ramadan, Islam’s holiest month, begins the evening of Friday, April 1, in the U.S.
During the month, Muslims observe daily fasting from dawn to sunset, abstaining from food, drink and sex.
“Ramadan Mubarak” is the greeting Muslims use to welcome Ramadan.
It is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar.
In addition to fasting, it is marked by prayer, reflection, and charity.
Muslims believe the first verses of Islam’s holy book, the Quran, were revealed to Prophet Muhammad during Ramadan.
