Imam In Afghanistan Call For Reopening Girls School
A group of Afghan religious scholars called for the immediate reopening of schools for girls across the country in grades 7 through 12.
At a meeting in Balkh, the scholars said the need to educate girls is greater than ever.
They said banning girls from receiving an education is not based in Islamic tradition.
Mawlawi Abu Hamid Hamidullah Hamidi said “a country with scientific cadres in all fields and disciplines will move toward progress and excellence.”
He added, men and women “with religion and virtue can train an awake, purposeful and committed nation.”
The scholars asked Mawlawi Hebatullah Akhundzadeh, the current leader of the Taliban, to reopen girls’ high schools as soon as possible.
