Illegal Israeli settlement in West Bank blocks water access for Palestinians
Israelis in the West Bank are escalating attacks against 120 Palestinian families living in rural Jericho, denying them water.
The families are being prevented from accessing the Al-Auja water source and watering their livestock.
An Israeli settler illegally established a settlement near the Al-Auja water source approximately three months ago.
Local Palestinians report that the illegal settlers have seized the area and are blocking their access to water in an effort to displace them.
The area’s local leader Muhammad Rashid told Anadolu news agency that the Palestinian families, who rely entirely on livestock for their livelihood, are deeply concerned about their land and water resources.
He stressed that the Israeli army and police empower the Israeli settlers in their attacks.
Al-Auja is one of the most important water sources in the eastern Jordan Valley in the West Bank.
It is also a popular tourism spot during the summer months due to its abundant water.
